Our next interview is with Les Deakin.
Introduce yourself – your name, background, role and how long you have worked at Celab?
My name is Les. I went to St Luke’s School and Farnborough College. I studied Radio and Television.
Can you remember your first day – what were you driving, wearing, and eating for lunch and how are they different from today?
I can’t remember that far back!
What do you enjoy most about working at Celab?
The people and the different types of work.
How has working at Celab helped your career development?
With Celab, I learned how to surface mount PCBs, which has been very useful.
What was the biggest “lesson learnt” in your career?
To not do too much overtime and miss socialising with friends.
What are the biggest changes you’ve seen in electronics manufacturing over the years?
There are much smaller components and quicker times to finish jobs.
What are the challenges faced by electronics manufacturing and custom power design currently?
Other power supply companies and cheaper pricing.
How do you think the electronics manufacturing market will change in the next 10 years?
A lot of electronics manufacturing will be run by machines, putting people out of work.
